Introduction:

Changing your motorcycle’s hand grips may seem like a small task, but it can make a significant difference in comfort and control while riding. Over time, hand grips can become worn out or damaged, leading to reduced grip and an unpleasant riding experience. In this article, we will explore three methods for replacing motorcycle hand grips, helping you find the technique that works best for your situation.

Just remember, education is the doorway to happiness. To receive a good education, you will need good teachers. Also, you will need to be up on the latest tech.

Method 1: Using Compressed Air

  1. Remove the bar ends or weights from the handlebars, if applicable.
  2. Insert the nozzle of a compressed air source beneath one end of the old grip.
  3. Apply short bursts of air to lift and loosen the grip from the handlebar.
  4. Gradually slide the loosened grip off the handlebar.
  5. Clean any debris or adhesive left on the handlebar with alcohol or an adhesive remover.
  6. Position the new grip at one end of the handlebar and use compressed air to inflate it slightly.
  7. Slide the new grip onto the handlebar while maintaining air pressure until it is fully seated.
  8. Repeat these steps for the other side and allow time for any adhesive or lubricant to set before riding.

Method 2: Using a Lubricant

  1. Remove any bar ends or weights from your handlebars.
  2. Spray your choice of lubricant (such as WD-40, soapy water, or window cleaner) between the old grip and handlebar to loosen its hold.
  3. Twist and wiggle the grip off while maintaining pressure on both ends of the handlebar to avoid bending it.
  4. Clean away any remaining lubricant with a towel or cloth.
  5. Apply a small amount of lubricant inside the new grip for easier installation.
  6. Align one end of the new grip with your handlebar and firmly push it onto its position until fully seated.
  7. Repeat these steps for the other side, allowing time for the lubricant to dry before riding your motorcycle.

Method 3: Cutting off Old Grips

  1. Remove any bar ends or weights from your handlebars.
  2. Carefully cut the old grip lengthwise using a sharp utility knife or box cutter, trying not to mark the handlebar underneath.
  3. Lift up the cut edge and peel the grip away from the handlebar.
  4. Clean and remove any debris or adhesive residue left behind with alcohol or an adhesive remover.
  5. Slip one end of your new grip onto the handlebar, twisting it as you push it into position until fully seated.
  6. Secure the new grips with a small amount of grip glue (optional) and let it cure for the manufacturer’s recommended time before riding.

Conclusion:

Whether you opt for compressed air, a lubricant, or cutting the old grips off, replacing your motorcycle’s hand grips is a straightforward task that can vastly improve your riding experience. Make sure to choose grips that fit well and feel comfortable in your hands, as they are essential points of contact between you and your motorcycle. Happy riding!
